SASCE signs historic MOU with MERSETA

The Executive Committee of SASCE successfully negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding Agreement with the Merseta which will see SASCE playing a key role in profiling WIL in the broader arena of skills development. The MOU was signed by Mr Shakeel Ori President of SASCE and the CEO Dr Patel at the Merseta Conference on the 6th May 2010 in Johannesburg with the Minister DHET Dr Blade Nzimande in attendance.
In terms of the Agreement SASCE and the Merseta agreed to cooperation on the basis of joint activities around strategic areas in support of education, training and development. Areas of mutual interest and engagement have been specifically identified and will be handled either as stand- alone or combined projects and/ or programmes. These areas of cooperation are:
- Experiential Learning and Internship opportunities in disciplines required of merSETA companies, at Universities of Technology, Comprehensive universities, UNISA, Further Education and Training Colleges and in merSETA companies.
- To promote and build capacity linking curriculum development & quality assurance to experiential learning (Work Integrated Learning)
- To promote research and development capacity toward a body of knowledge on Cooperative Education practice and publication
As SASCE we are excited about this MoU and comes at a time where the Seta landscape has been redefined and we look forward to positioning SASCE as a key player in fulfilling our mandate in education-economic collaboration.

(SASCE) The Southern African Society for Co-operative Education is a non profit organization that promotes the integration of academic studies with quality work integrated learning. The success of cooperative education is that students are able to graduate with the competitive advantage of entering the world of work with accredited work experience related to their qualification disciplines.
